The researchers involved in the study found that omega-3’s contribute to something called stress resilience – which REDUCES the harmful damage due to stress and INCREASES the anti-inflammatory activity that protects your cells from aging too quickly.
Previous studies have linked omega-3’s to ‘better’ aging, but now researchers have identified the direct link.
You see, omega-3’s help preserve small portions of your DNA in your white blood cells called telomeres – which are one of the key factors in how your body ages.
Telomeres don’t carry genetic information like the rest of your DNA, but they play a critical role in keeping your DNA strands stable as you get older.
But factors like stress and inflammation can cause your telomeres get shorter and shorter… accelerating the aging process.
