According to researchers from Columbia University, a diet supplemented with cocoa flavanols– naturally occurring compounds found in cocoa beans—can help improve memory.

In the study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, the researchers found that an increased intake of cocoa flavanols over 12 weeks led to an increase in overall blood flow to the brain… which led to better performance on multiple cognitive tests.
Now, this may feel like an excuse to start dipping your hand into the candy jar. But it’s important to remember that this is specifically about cocoa beans and not processed candy.
In fact, dark chocolate (which is made from the seed of the cocoa tree) is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that can positively affect your brain and memory.
One study found that eating high-flavanol cocoa (common in dark chocolate) for five days improved blood flow to the brain.
When I shop for dark chocolate, I always opt for the quality stuff. It contains less sugar and provides the most brain-boosting bang for your buck.
