According to a research study recently presented at The Physiological Society’s Annual Conference Physiology 2021, exercise releases molecules into the bloodstream that have the potential to slow the growth of deadly bowel cancer cells (aka colon cancer).
Getting exercise has long been attributed to fending off colon cancer as it helps shed unwanted pounds and excess weight that are risk factors for developing the disease.
But it turns out that getting exercise can help stave off the disease – even if it doesn’t necessarily lead to weight loss!
According to the study, getting exercise can help spark unique, biological changes of proteins in your bloodstream that help fend off cancerous cells that can lead to tumors in your colon.
In other words, staying active and working out ‘activates’ cancer-fighting proteins – even if you’re not exercising to lose weight.
If that’s not a great reason to stay active, I don’t know what is!
So, if you already exercise on a regular basis, keep it going! Sticking to your fitness routine will continue to help your body stave off cancer.
