Don’t Fall for This Diet MYTH

It seems like today’s diet fads come and go faster than the latest clothing trend! 

If you’re like most folks looking to drop a few pounds, chances are you’ve probably tried every diet under the sun.  

Big Pharma and Big Food spend millions of advertising dollars aimed at convincing you that their latest ‘get-slim-quick’ eating plan is the way to go. 

But their plans are expensive, unrealistic, and downright unhealthy! 

So, what’s the latest fad MYTH you need to be aware of (and RUN AWAY from)? 

For as long as I can remember, myths around low-calorie diets have been hammered into our heads by the feds, mainstream researchers, and even your own doctor. 

Well, I’m here to tell you they’re DEAD WRONG! 

You see, while conventional wisdom has taught us that if one snack is 80 calories and the other 60 the 60-calorie snack is the healthier option. 

But that’s not necessarily true… 

Because according to new research from the University of Toronto, the calories listed on a food label don’t always equate to the amount you actually digest and absorb! 

Take almonds for example. 

Many folks are hesitant to eat almonds because they are higher in calories and fat than mainstream, low-calorie foods. And while that’s technically true, it doesn’t paint a realistic picture on how your body actually absorbs nutrients from “high” calorie foods like almonds.  

But according to the new study, your body does not absorb roughly 20of the calories coming from “high calorie” foods like almonds. 

These excess calories actually leave your body through your stool… meanwhile the other 80% is made up of protein, vitamins, and minerals that is absorbed by your body.  

If a typical serving of something like almonds is about 160 calories, it’s really only about 130 calories that are being absorbed by your body… nutritious calories at that! 

So, it’s not as ‘high-calorie’ as you’ve been led to believe! 

Now, this isn’t a license to chow down on high-calorie foods… or even me telling you to police every morsel you eat. 

It’s just a friendly reminder that just because something says it’s low in calories, it doesn’t always mean it’s good for you! 

And what’s the best way to ensure you’re eating the right number of calories… without spending hours counting calories? 

Stick to natural foods like meats, fruits, vegetables, and nuts… the foods you find on the outer perimeter of your grocery store. 

And if you stick to proper serving sizes, you’ll be just fine.
