According to new research published in the American Heart Association’s flagship journal Circulation, eating ½ cup of WALNUTS lowers levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol – which is known as “bad cholesterol.”
In fact, the study found that daily consumption of walnuts reduced the number of total LDL particles by up to 6.1%. This may not seem like a significant decrease, but just small percentage decrease in cholesterol (specifically LDL cholesterol) could mean the difference between having ‘high’ cholesterol or normal cholesterol readings.
And get this, walnuts are even a great, preventive way to keep LDL cholesterol levels from getting out of control. The study found that walnuts reduced the number of total LDL particles and small LDL particles in healthy, older adults.
In other words, consider walnuts ‘nature’s’ statin!

When it comes to incorporating walnuts into your diet, just be mindful that walnuts (like all nuts) are very calorie dense… so just stick with that ½ cup serving (which is about the size of the palm of your hand), and you should be just fine.
