According to a large research study out of Michigan State University, engaging in 20 minutes of meditation can help you become LESS error prone.
The study, recently published in the journal Brain Sciences, tested how open monitoring meditation – which is meditation that focuses awareness on your feelings, thoughts or sensations as they unfold in your mind and body – altered brain activity to led to increased error recognition.
In fact, researchers discovered that just 20 minutes of meditation led to better scores on computerized ‘distraction’ tests – which helps analyze a person’s ability to better recognize mistakes before they happen.

In other words, the soothing act of meditation can help your brain better recognize – and prevent – mistakes and errors that you can have throughout the day.
And here’s more good news.
The findings of the study did NOT say you need to meditate for 20 minutes every day…
But simply that 20 minutes of meditation (when convenient) can help put your mind in a more heightened state of awareness that can lead to fewer mistakes.
The more you can slow your mind down and meditate, the better. But if you can’t carve out a lot of time to meditate, there are ways you can take advantage of it without feeling like it will take a big chunk out of your day.
Simply turning off distractions like your phone, TV, or the radio (ideally for 20 minutes) and engaging in some deep-breathing is a great way to calm your mind – and your body.
There are also easy-to-use (and free) medication tools like Calm – which is a popular app designed to teach you how to reduce anxiety and stress, sleep better, and check in with your emotions.
