Here’s the data.
In the study, published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, researchers used actigraphs, small devices that monitor movement and activity, to track the sleep/wake patterns of close to 4,000 adults over seven days.
Then, each of the participants underwent ultrasounds and CT scans to look for heart disease…
And those who got less than six hours of sleep per night were a whopping 27 PERCENT more likely to have atherosclerosis, the dangerous hardening of arteries behind most heart attacks.
Plus, compared to those who slept soundly, people with a poor quality of sleep – measured in how many times they woke and how often they tossed and turned – had a 34 PERCENT higher risk of atherosclerosis!
Unfortunately, these findings are backed up by previous reports with similar results… and while the obvious solution may be to just “get more” sleep…
That’s easier said than done.
Age and loss of shuteye are related through a variety of reasons – notably, changes in your body’s production of the “sleep hormone,” melatonin — and unfortunately, most people turn to mainstream meds for relief.
But that’s NOT a good idea, because another recent study (published in Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience) has just found that dangerous benzodiazepines (or benzos) can dull your senses and slow your ability to react to stimuli…
Even something as LOUD as a vacuum or as LIFE-SAVING as a fire alarm!
Just imagine what terrifying consequences that could have…
