Many people (myself included) find that it’s often sickly-sweet and artificial tasting – and since it doesn’t contain any cocoa solids, most folks don’t even consider it real chocolate!
According to one expert, a better name would be “sweet fat,” because it’s basically just assorted oils, additives, and sweeteners mixed with a bit of cocoa butter… and in this study, it was essentially a placebo.
Dark chocolate, on the other hand, is 100 percent decadent PERFECTION.
Previous research has found that this sultry Valentine’s Day treat is a powerful source of antioxidants, healthy minerals, and other compounds. In past studies, it’s been proven to help:
- Improve blood flow and lower blood pressure,
- Reduce the risk of heart disease,
- Relieve symptoms of depression, and
- Balance your levels of “good” and “bad” cholesterol.
And in the Japanese study, folks who consumed dark chocolate performed BETTER on cognitive tests!
After one month of daily dark chocolate, participants saw higher levels of compounds that help your brain change and adapt over time, allowing it to stay flexible and reduce shrinkage, which can inhibit your mind and memory.
Plus, folks eating dark chocolate saw improved blood flow to their brains, an action that gives your noggin the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and function at its best…
And amazingly, some of these effects appeared AFTER the experiment had ended!
