At the end, the authors found that the more belly fat a participant had, the more likely they’ll suffer from cognitive problems — like failing memory, poor judgment, and trouble thinking — once they hit their 60s. 

This means those extra inches could be the reason you end up depending on your family and others. 

Experts believe that belly fat has such a negative impact on your brain because it increases specific inflammation markers linked to memory problems.

  1. Exercise more: This doesn’t mean training for a marathon. Just try to get in more steps today than you did yesterday.
  2. Eat better: Avoiding processed foods contain several toxins that cause belly fat. Give up any foods that come in boxes or cans and just watch the pounds melt away. 
  3. Stay hydrated: Being dehydrated can slow down your ability to burn fat. One way to ensure you’re getting enough water is to drink one oz. of water for each pound you weigh.
