Superbug Epidemic Caused by Popular Sweetener?!
If your doc is anything like mine, he’s been preaching to you about the importance of getting rid of sugary foods as you age for years.
He’ll promise that if you make the switch to alternative sweeteners, your increasing risk of health problems will all but disappear.
But now we know this is all a load of bull — study after study shows that sugar substitutes can give you everything from diabetes to cancer.
And according to Texas researchers it looks like a one popular sweetener could also put you on the fast track to a deadly superbug infection.
It’s called trehalose and it’s found in trace amounts in some plants, fungi and even honey.
In recent years, food manufacturers have used this chemical as a sugar substitute in many foods like cakes, noodles, frozen foods and nutrition bars because it’s thought to be healthier than table sugar.
Now it looks like that was a lethal mistake.
Recently, scientists from the Baylor University College of Medicine in Houston closely studied the growth and development of C. difficile, the bacteria responsible for the rise in superbug infections across the planet.
You see these horrifying stomach infections can cause severe diarrhea and are sometimes fatal. Because of this and rapidly increasing infection rates, health experts need to have a better understanding of how this bug thrives.
And now they have it…
After close examination, the researchers discovered that two particularly lethal strains of this bacteria can metabolize trehalose — using it as fuel.
And when this happens, C. difficile can grow faster, multiply quicker and cause more severe symptoms in those it infects.
Due to these findings, some experts suspect that the use of trehalose in the human diet just before the emergence of these two powerful strains could be the underlying cause of today’s superbug epidemic.
This just goes to show that your mainstream doctor doesn't always know best when it comes to your nutrition.
And trehalose isn’t the only stomach villain when it comes to sweeteners. Other sugar alternatives like sucralose have also been found to have negative impacts on your gut health, which can up your chances of superbug infection.
So if you care about your gut health, it might be best to lay off sweeteners entirely.
Instead, learn to drink your coffee black or with just a drop or two of maple syrup.
