But millions of Americans are still practicing strict social distancing to avoid contracting the coronavirus.
That means staying away from crowds, avoiding stores, and keeping face-to-face visits with family and neighbors minimal.
While this might be your new “normal,” becoming TOO isolated could also take a serious toll on your health.

You see, according to research out of Argentina, staying extremely isolated is causing a spike in high blood pressure cases.
Researchers examined over 12,000 patients with an average age of 57 that visited a hospital during March – June 2020 (the early days of COVID-19). They compared those patients to other emergency room patients during that same time period back in 2019 (pre-COVID).
The data showed that the folks who admitted themselves into the ER during early COVID-19 days were linked to a 37% INCREASE in the odds of having high blood pressure.
But what’s the connection between COVID-19, isolating, and high blood pressure?
The research team noted that increased stress due to the pandemic, limited interaction with others, and even financial or family difficulties all play a role in this increase in blood pressure.

First and foremost, try to get as much outdoor physical activity as possible.
I know that the temperatures are getting colder, but simply walking even 10 minutes per day around your neighborhood is a great weapon against feeling isolated or “cooped up.” (You can also wear a mask if you live on a busy street.)
Consider meeting up with a friend or neighbor in your yard or a local park where you can catch up with them face-to-face at a safe distance.
And don’t forget to embrace the power of technology when connecting with family… especially if they live out-of-state. Weekly chats via online platforms like Zoom or Google Meet are a great way to interact face-to-face with friends AND loved ones.
