Is This Sleep Habit KILLING You?
Dear Turapür Today Reader,
If you’re a morning person, you already know the benefits of getting an edge on your day.
You can drink a cup of coffee and read the newspaper before the sun even rises.
But being a morning person doesn’t just give you an advantage on the day — it could be extending your life, too.
Because British researchers have just discovered that being a night owl — staying up late and waking up late — could land you in an early grave.
Researchers have known for years that too little or ill-timed sleep can mess with your circadian rhythm, increase your blood sugar and even make you obese.
Now it looks like it can kill you, too.
In a recent study published in Chronobiology International, researchers studied over 430,000 people between ages 38 and 73, tracking their sleeping habits and death for 6½ years.
At the end of the trial, they found that night owls had a 10% higher risk of dying than the morning people.
Ten percent may not sound like a lot, but it could add up to a decade of memories and time spent with your family that you’ll never get.
Even worse? Night owls also have a higher risk of diabetes and psychological disorders.
According to experts, this particular problem isn’t just about lack of sleep.
Instead, this sleeping pattern is so deadly because of the things that come along with late-night hours.
Increased exposure to blue light from TVs, cellphones or computers and eating unhealthy foods — both common in folks who keep late hours — can set you up for all sorts of deadly chronic diseases.
Fortunately, if you are a night owl, you can block blue light exposure by downloading blue-light blocking apps or purchasing special glasses (like these) that will protect you from blue light exposure.
You should also stock your house with healthy foods like fruits, veggies and nuts. This way, even if you do succumb to late-night munchies, you have nutritious foods to eat.
