A new study from the University of California, Berkeley has found that seniors actually have a tougher time generating the type of brain waves you need for the deepest type of sleep.

You get out of bed eight hours later feeling like you didn’t get a minute of truly deep sleep at all.

You see, they point out that we often start experiencing major changes to our sleep cycles in our 30s. But the fact is we’ve known for more than 30 years that our melatonin levels start to nose-dive in middle age, and it can get even worse in our senior years.
Melatonin is a natural hormone that regulates our sleep cycles, or our circadian rhythms. And if you want to get a deep, restorative sleep (and avoid the health problems that come with poor sleep), your melatonin levels need to be up to snuff.
