Do THIS to Slash Your Dementia Risk
Let’s face it — no one wants to get old and frail.
And while there’s nothing you can do to stop the passing of time, you should do everything in your power to keep from becoming frail.
Because researchers from University College London have just found that having low muscle mass and mobility problems — two of the hallmarks of frailty — can send your dementia risk into the stratosphere!
Fortunately, it’s incredibly easy to avoid.
All you have to do is walk to the mailbox or take on a few chores a couple times a week.
In a recent study, researchers from University College London in England looked at the medical records of 8,700 older folks looking for a link between frailty and dementia.
After careful calculation, one thing was clear…
Frail people are at a much greater risk of developing dementia — 3.5 times more likely, to be exact!
That’s more than triple the threat to your memory and independence.
Researchers report that one reason why being frail is detrimental to your brain health is because folks with muscle weakness are more likely to have blood sugar problems, which can cause dementia.
Additionally, frail people suffer from high levels of inflammation that can lead to some of the brain changes linked to memory problems.
But it doesn’t have to be this way…
Experts suggest that doing regular low-impact exercise like walking, household chores or chair exercises a few times a week is all you need to keep your brain (and blood sugar) in check.
And a great way to get started is with exercise videos that can help you stay strong without subjecting you to Navy SEAL-style work outs.
