The Six-Month ‘Checkup’ You DON’T Need (Here’s Why)

Dear Turapür Today Reader,

Every six months, it happens like clockwork.

You know, that routine visit to the dentist for your regular checkup.

You brush your teeth twice daily and floss regularly… and you still show up to your dentist’s chair every six months.

All to be told that EVERYTHING’S FINE!

If you’ve ever walked away from one of those routine appointments thinking it was a waste of time… you may be right!

Because according to research, it turns out that those routine, six-month dental appointments DO NOT improve your oral health!

According to the new study, the interval between your dentist visits depends entirely upon your overall oral health.

In other words…

If you have a pre-existing oral issue – like gum disease, gingivitis, or even a history of cavities – going to the dentist twice per year makes sense.

But if you have don’t have a history of oral health issues – or have a low risk of dental disease – you can ditch those twice per year visits and space them out.

In fact, if you do have good oral health and practice good oral hygiene, you can schedule your checkups every TWO years.

Now, listen… I’m not suggesting you DON’T go to your dentist. In fact, even if you have pristine oral health, you still need to take care of your mouth and let your dentist have a peek every couple of years.

But even if you need to see your dentist regularly for a nagging mouth issue, there’s still plenty you can do to keep your mouth healthy in between visits.

The best thing you can do for your mouth (regardless of health) is to stick to ‘the basics.’ You know, the stuff your dentist has nagged you about for years.

There’s no substitute for optimal oral hygiene like brushing at least twice daily, and flossing regularly.

Also, make sure to replace your toothbrush regularly. I replace mine every three months, and I opt for toothbrushes with soft or extra-soft bristles.

There are also a TON of foods out there (delicious ones, too) that are good for your teeth and gums.

Fiber-rich fruits like apples, bananas, oranges, and strawberries help keep your teeth and gums clean. About 20 minutes after you eat something with sugars or starches, your saliva begins to reduce the effects of the acids and enzymes attacking your teeth.

Cheese is another winner in the tooth game. The calcium in cheese, and the calcium and phosphates in milk and other dairy products, help put back minerals your teeth might have lost due to other foods. They also help rebuild tooth enamel.
