In a recent study, split participants into two groups. One took a phosphate supplement equal to what you would get from preserved food. The other took a supplements that blocked the mineral from being absorbed.
All of the participants ate their usual diets during the 11 week study.
At the end, the scientists found that those taking the phosphate supplements saw a significant increase in their blood pressure!
Even worse? The phosphate also increase their heart rates.
And this is so dangerous because high blood pressure and increased heart rate are two of the key drivers behind heart attack and stroke.
Experts report that too much phosphate additives are so bad for your heart because it builds-up in your arteries and causes blockages.
Phosphate additives that you should avoid include:
- Dicalcium phosphate
- Disodium phosphate
- Monosodium phosphate
- Phosphoric acid
- Sodium hexameta-phosphate
- Trisodium phosphate
- Sodium tripolyphosphate
- Tetrasodium pyrophosphate.
