REVERSE Parkinson’s… With ONE Serve?!

Step 1? Pick up a ping-pong paddle.
In an interesting new study, researchers from Japan’s Fukuoka University recruited 12 seniors (averaging 73 years old) with mild or moderate Parkinson’s and instructed them to play ping pong – also called table tennis – once per week for six months.
They were taught and overseen by an experienced table-tennis player, who had them do training exercises and stretches during their five-hour weekly sessions. Their Parkinson’s symptoms – including poor hand-eye coordination, tremors, slower reflexes, and lack of stability – were monitored and documented throughout the study.
And by the end, researchers found that participants had an easier time getting dressed in the morning… getting out of bed… speaking… and writing.
They showed significant improvements in facial expression (which often falls flat during Parkinson’s), posture, slowness, and tremors.
Instead of needing two (or more) tries to get out of bed each morning, the players needed just one… their neck muscles (which often stiffen Parkinson’s patients) were more relaxed…
And many of these benefits appeared after just THREE MONTHS!
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “I’m struggling with my grip and my balance. How can I possibly play ping pong?”
The answer’s actually pretty simple: You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to try.

Compared to other sports, table tennis isn’t tough on your knees or aging joints, and the risk of injury is fairly low, which makes it perfect for seniors.
Plus, even if you struggle starting out, ping pong has been shown to improve hand-eye coordination, hone reflexes, and stimulate the brain… all of which are BIG ISSUES for folks with Parkinson’s.
Not to mention, ping pong is a social sport – and competition can be an incredible motivator.
Add that all together, and it possible that ping pong could improve your mood, uplift your mind, and strengthen your focus and resolve… all in addition to helping your balance and mobility!
It’s pretty incredible… but that doesn’t mean this study was without its flaws.
Participants weren’t compared against a control group, and only one specialist assessed their progress throughout the study – so it’s far from conclusive, and I’m not expecting you to turn “ping-pong pro” anytime soon.
But why not pick up a paddle?
Many recreation centers, gyms, and schools offer ping pong classes or groups — and if you advance quickly, some areas even have competitions and tournaments.
Keep an eye out for what’s available near you – and keep that ping pong paddle handy. It could be the key to REVERSING your worst Parkinson’s symptoms.
