Popular Meds up Death Risk 58%
Having an infection can really put your life on hold.
Whether it’s just a simple sinus infection or a serious UTI, chances are you’ll do just about anything to get rid of it.
So you probably don’t think twice when your doc quickly suggests an antibiotic.
But you should.
Because Ivy League researchers have just discovered that these popular drugs can put you on the fast track to an early grave… especially if you’re a woman.
It’s no secret that taking too many antibiotics is detrimental to your health. They’re linked to stomach problems, hearing loss and increased inflammation.
And that’s not the worst of it… they’re causing deadly damage to your heart, too.
In a recent study, Harvard scientists tracked the antibiotic use of more than 37,500 women aged 60 or older. None of the participants had heart disease at the start of the program, which spanned from 2004 until summer 2012.
After careful analysis, they found a clear link between antibiotic use and premature death, particularly if the participant’s course was longer.
In fact, those who took antibiotics for at least two months were 27% more likely to die from any cause than those who took no antibiotics at all.
Even worse? Women who took antibiotics for longer than two months increased risk of death from heart disease by 58%.
Now think about all the times you’ve taken antibiotics… It’s terrifying to think about what damage they may have done to your heart.
Experts report these drugs are so bad for your heart because they destroy your good gut bacteria, which can increase inflammation in your heart tissues.
And they believe that men could see similar results with long-term antibiotic use, too.
If you or a loved is on long-term antibiotics, it’s time to talk to your doctor about changing that.
In the meantime, be sure to take a probiotic supplement. This can help replenish good bacteria in your gut.
