Popular Meats Linked to DEADLY Illness? [RECALL ALERT]

If your fridge is stocked with leftovers (or foods you didn’t get a chance to open yet) from the holidays, you may want to take a second look as to what’s in there… 

And perhaps toss some of it in the trash! 

That’s because one of the biggest meat companies in the U.S. has just issued a recall of HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of pounds of its meat products. 

Why? 

It turns out they could be contaminated with a DEADLY illness! 

Here’s everything you need to know about this recall, what products are affected, and steps you need to take stay safe.  

According to a recent announcement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, Alexander & Hornung, a unit of Perdue Premium Meat Co., has recalled over 230,000 pounds of cooked ham and pepperoni products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes – aka LISTERIA.  

There are 17 products in total listed in the recall, including Wellshire Wood Smoked Ham products, Alexander & Hornung Ham products, Garett Valley Farms ham products, Butcher Boy ham products, Five Star Brand pepperoni, and Big Y bone-in hickory smoked ham steak.

It is important to note that this is a voluntary recall as there have been no illnesses or complaints associated with the recalled products. And there is no evidence that the products were contaminated at the time of shipment. 

But out of an abundance of caution, the company is still issuing the recall and urging folks to throw away any of the products if they have them.  

That’s because eating any food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, which is more serious than listeria and is sometimes fatal – especially with seniors and people with weakened immune systems. 

In the meantime, it’s important to check your fridge for any of the products listed in this recall. If you have any of them, TOSS THEM IN THE TRASH! 

If for some reason you have consumed any of the recalled products over the past few weeks, it’s recommended that you talk to your doctor about the potentially contaminated food, and to monitor symptoms related to listeriosis. 

These include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions – which may occur right away or weeks after consumption of the meat.
