You see, epigenetic changes, or the “switching off” of certain genes, often plays a role in some types of leukemia and other cancers.
One of these genes, called TET2, is vital in the battle against leukemia because it causes cancer stem cell to die off naturally. When TET2 is “switched off,” it can make these dangerous stem cells grow abnormally, driving your risk of getting sick through the roof.
Researchers have long suspected that if you could activate this important gene, you could also stop cancers like leukemia by killing them at the source.
For the recent study, scientists treated TET2-deficient mice with high doses of vitamin C.
