Granted, this study was far from perfect. It dealt with a highly limited population (just 148 people reported eating dark chocolate) and failed to confirm causation… and this kind of data collection doesn’t necessarily reflect long-term diet trends…

In one study, scientists observed that eating cocoa or cacao (the base ingredient of chocolate) for five days improved blood flow to the brain, something that’s been linked to fighting off memory loss and cognitive decline…

And in another, cacao was found to reduce the odds of heart-related mortality by 50 PERCENT!

Plus, dark chocolate is said to have more beneficial anti-oxidant activity than blueberries and acai berries – two of the best health defenders around.

In short, we’ve got NO REASON to doubt the benefits of daily dark chocolate!

Unfortunately, though, that doesn’t mean we can (or should) eat as much as we like.

Most dark chocolate on the market is packed with sugar or paired with sugary fillings (in order to mask the natural bitterness that some consumers don’t enjoy), and eating the kind of crap won’t do anything for you.

Instead, you want to stock up on dark chocolate that’s as natural as possible. The best way to do it is to look for the highest concentration of cacao. Aim for a treat that’s more than 70 percent cacao, relatively low in sugar, and contains no milk or trans fats.

It may taste bitter, but it’s also more likely to work.
