According to a new research study, loneliness and social isolation can put older patients with respiratory problems at higher risk of needing emergency care.
Respiratory diseases, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, are common causes for hospitalization among the elderly… and are even more problematic when there is not enough time with the outside world.
In fact, the research team found that living alone and poor social engagement increased the chances of needing emergency care by a jaw-dropping 34 percent!

Or consider meeting up with a friend or neighbor in your yard or a local park where you can catch up with them face-to-face at a safe distance.
And don’t forget to embrace the power of technology when connecting with family… especially during the holiday season. Scheduling weekly (or even twice-weekly) chats via online platforms like Zoom or Google Meet are a great way to interact face-to-face with friends AND loved ones.
