I’ll tell you what I’m caroling on about in just one second, but first… some sobering travel statistics you need to see.
In a study a few years ago, Auburn University researchers intentionally infected six surfaces commonly found in airplanes with drug-resistant strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA) and E. coli, which can cause severe abdominal cramping and diarrhea, to see how long they could survive.
And the results were unsettling.
According to that study, those nasty, deadly germs could survive for up to EIGHT DAYS in a seat pocket… and up to SEVEN DAYS on a rubber armrest or leather seat.
That’s MORE than enough time for just one round of bacteria to infect dozens of passengers and spread even farther.
But like I said earlier, there’s a way to ARM yourself against deadly bacteria so you stay happy and healthy long after the holidays are over.
It all comes down to peppermint.
In a recent study, researchers found that one kind peppermint extract was able to inhibit the growth of 10 different multidrug-resistant pathogens – staph and E. coli among them.
That means that even if you do pick up one of these germs, the peppermint will actually keep it from growing, spreading throughout your body, and making you sick.
And that makes a lot of sense, because peppermint (Mentha piperita) is already known for its wound-healing anti-bacterial effects and other cleansing benefits.
Look for peppermint extract in supplement form at your local pharmacy or vitamin shop.
