These days, it seems like everything can give you dementia.
From the food you eat to the drugs your doc prescribes, everything has a threat level when it comes to your brain.
And to make things worse, French researchers have just discovered that having high levels of a certain acid in your body could be a one-way ticket to memory problems.
Fortunately, all you have to do to stop this brain threat is make a few easy food changes.
This latest dementia villain is uric acid.
For years, scientists have known that having too much of it in your body can cause gout, kidney issues and even heart problems.
More recently, scientists were curious of to see if having elevated uric acid levels negatively affects your brain.
For the study, researchers analyzed the medical records of over 1,500 healthy folks aged 65 or more, searching for a link between uric acid and certain forms of dementia.
At the end of the trial, they found that participants with higher levels of uric acid had an increased risk of developing vascular dementia.
Really, this should come as no surprise.

Vascular dementia is caused by poor heart health. Since high uric acid levels can wreak havoc on your heart and arteries — two of the key components for a healthy brain — it’s not shocking that they could also cause cognitive issues.
Luckily, all you have to do to lower your uric acid levels is pay attention to your diet.
Certain foods have high levels of purines, or compounds that can raise your uric acid levels.
So it’s best to limit these or reduce or avoid high-purine foods like sweets, pastas, breads, organ meats, alcohol and certain fish like muscles, haddock and scallops.
And you should up your intake of food that can reduce uric acid, like cherries, coffee, citrus fruits, olive oil, organic eggs, Brazil nuts and even pinto beans.
