The participants had their vision tested two hours later. Tests included contrast and color perception, distraction effects, marksmanship and visual sharpness.
At the end of the trial, scientists found that eating dark chocolate significantly improved the vision in 70% of the participants!
Even better? The biggest enhancements were seen in contrast sensitivity and sharpness of vision, both essential for tasks like driving at night.
However, when this same experiment was conducted with milk chocolate, vision improvements were almost nonexistent.
Experts report that dark chocolate is more effective when it comes to vision enhancement because it has eight times the amount of antioxidants — special molecules that reduce inflammation — as milk chocolate.
You can get the dark chocolate used in this study at your local Trader Joe’s. Or you can opt for any brand, as long as it contains at least 72% cacao.
