[Coronavirus] 3 Ways to Celebrate Easter -- SAFELY

I won’t beat around the bush on this one, friend: If you’re used to celebrating Easter surrounded by your friends and loved ones, today is going to be hard.

Many of us will be stuck at home, following shelter-in-place orders and quarantine guidelines, while others battle travel restrictions and penalties for gathering…

And some folks are LOCKED DOWN even further, trapping in high-risk hospital beds and nursing homes.

Whatever the case is for you, friend, there’s no denying that this Easter looks a lot different than in years past…

But that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate.

I’m back today with three unique ways to enjoy Easter Sunday WITHOUT getting sick or upping your risk of COVID-19… and incredibly, these measures won’t just help you stay safe.

They may also BOOST your brain and IMPROVE your mood!

I’ll give you all the details in just a moment… but first, let’s remember what we’re dealing with.

The novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, has been a fixture in many American lives for more than a month now. More than 300,000 people have been infected, and around 10,000 have died – and unfortunately, there’s more to come.

That’s why most governors and state legislators have implemented social distancing, travel bans, and shelter-in-place orders: The fewer people walking around and crowding public spaces, the slower this disease will spread.

Those restrictions (in addition to masks and regular hand washing) could make a HUGE difference toward saving lives… but unfortunately, they come at the cost of loneliness, frustration, and depression, conditions that have been linked to cognitive decline.

On days like today, when many of us would usually be surrounded by friends and loved ones, they can feel especially heavy…

Fortunately, there a few ways to stay festive and SAFELY keep your spirits up. Follow these guidelines today and every day to improve your mind and mood in these dark times.

  1. Spend time with your family (virtually): While you might be itching to hug your kids or see your sister, you should assume that everyone (yourself included) has COVID-19 – and AVOID in-person interaction.

Instead, use a video program like Zoom or Google Hangout to communicate virtually. Unlike a typical phone call, you’ll be able to see your loved ones and connect with multiple people at once – almost like you’re in the same place! You could even plan to eat dinner or dye eggs “together.”

  1. Practice your faith from home: As I mentioned, staying out of crowded areas (like places of worship) is key to dodging COVID-19. So, consider skipping in-person services for the next few weeks. Instead, practice your faith from home.

Many institutions are recording services that you can view and follow along with – and some are even offering live streams and video calls. Ask around and see if that’s an option for your congregation.

  1. Maintain tradition as much as possible: Do you always bring a cake or pie to Easter? Get baking! Do you spend all day cooking? Get started!

Continuing to do the same special things you’ve done for years will help brighten your day and make things feel more “normal.”

Plus, you’ll be stimulating your mind and staying focused on unique tasks – something that can help prevent brain drain and improve your mood. Once you’re done, you’ll feel satisfied having completed something – and if you’re usually in charge of dinner, you’ll have leftovers for days.
