In the study, just published in the American Journal of Physiology – Endocrinology and Metabolism, researchers fed mice one of four diets over the course of three months.
The first group (the control) ate a standard diet of 4.6 percent soy-based fiber, while the remaining groups consumed high-fat diets and differing amounts of fiber: ZERO fiber, 10 percent indigestible cellulose fiber, and 10 percent flaxseed fiber, respectively.
And at the end of 12 weeks… the results were INCREDIBLE.
Not only did the flaxseed-fed mice maintain healthy levels of “good” gut bacteria and fatty acids… but they ALSO showed improved glucose control.
Plus, on top of that… they GAINED THE LEAST WEIGHT of the non-control groups!
That’s AMAZING when you remember that the mice were all fed high-fat diets meant to encourage weight gain.
(Just imagine what that would mean for people following an average or better-balanced diet… they might even LOSE weight!)
Experts credit these incredible findings to flaxseed’s impressive fiber content. The researchers observed that digestion of this fiber helps create more beneficial fatty acids that increase energy expenditure and improve metabolism, which reduces obesity.
And you don’t have to go far to grab the very same effects.
Right now, flaxseed is being celebrated as a health marvel, which means that many food companies have started adding it into existing products. Look for it incorporated into breads, cereals, and other grains – or choose to buy it separately and mix it in yourself.
Aim to consumer one or two tablespoons per day.
