 STOP Late-Life Depression – By Eating THIS!

Some people just seem to have it all together…  

Laughing without a care in the world, bright-eyed and ready to take on each day… 

But if you’re suffering from life-altering depression, living that way can seem IMPOSSIBLE! 

It’s a HUGE jump from the crippling fatigue and intrusive thoughts that you’re used to — and on top of everything else, your doctor’s drugs can’t do A THING to help you. 

Too often, mainstream antidepressants lead to weight gain, sexual issues, and WORSE emotional turmoil… 

But you don’t have suffer ANY LONGER. 

Because in a study recently presented to the American Psychiatric Association, Greek researchers highlighted the benefits of the one mysterious diet… a lifestyle CELEBRATED for its healthful properties… that DEFENDS against late-life depression! 

I’ll tell you all about it in just a second – but first, it’s important to know that you’re not suffering alone. 

Research estimates that roughly 20 PERCENT of older adults will suffer from an episode of major depression… and while that may not seem like a lot, the effects of depression at an older age can be heartbreaking. 

Symptoms of depression typically include tough-to-handle feelings of irritability, hopelessness, and loss of interest… 

Fortunately, a study recently published in Nutritional Neuroscience reports that adopting a Mediterranean diet – rich in healthy fats, vegetables, and leafy greenscan significantly improve depression in older adults! 

This cross-sectional study included 154 participants with an average age of 71, and researchers used an anonymous questionnaire to determine lifestyle, socioeconomic, and dietary changes and gauge depressive symptoms. 

The results were nothing short of eye-opening! 

Folks who were stricter about following the diet had a dramatically REDUCED risk of depression… 

Most participants had moderate or high adherence to the Mediterranean diet… and within this population, over 75 percent had NO DEPRESSION! 

There were also some specific diet adjustments that were found to significantly decrease symptoms of late-life depression… 

Notably, eating more veggies dropped the chance of developing depression by an extra 20 percent, while every unit decrease in alcohol showed a 28 percent drop in depression risk. 

But the diet’s benefits don’t stop there… 

Lead researcher Konstantinos Argyropoulos noted that the Mediterranean diet may help the brain by combining nutrients that are potentially protective against cognitive dysfunction… including antioxidants, folate, and vitamin B12.

Following this lifestyle involves eating lots of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, extra-virgin olive oil, lean proteins, and a little red wine — so consider adding at least one of these to each of your meals. 

If you aren’t ready for a full-diet makeover, focus on reducing harsh alcohol, red meat, and sugar. 

You can start with easy substitutions like: 

  • Using olive oil instead of butter, 
  • Eating sweet fruits instead of sugary snacks and desserts, or 
  • Swapping in fish or chicken for red meat. 

Plus, consider inviting a friend or loved one to eat with you. A walk, talk, and laugh with a friend can help release feel-good endorphins, and in the Mediterranean, meals are often a social affair.
